The Benefits of Lemon Grass Tea 66

Last updated on September 7, 2016

Lemongrass grows wild in Southeast Asia and Africa. The native people of these countries have been using it for its medicinal purposes since ancient times. Due to its health benefits, this plant has become very popular in the western hemisphere in modern days.

Lemon Grass Essential OilThere are many good reasons to drink this wonderful herbal tea. If suffering from insomnia, a cup before bedtime causes relaxation and promotes a restful night of sleep. It is also known to relieve nausea and is an aid in digestion. Drinking a cup after a large meal will take away that full feeling and will aid in digesting the food just consumed along with helping to remove unhealthy food additives, chemicals and excess fats. It also aids in the relief of constipation, keeping the bowels working properly and removing toxins to keep the body healthy and energetic. Acting as a natural diuretic it is known to keep the kidneys and bladder working properly. Its powerful antioxidant benefits help to keep the liver and pancreas healthy and it is also known to help keep cholesterol levels normal.

People of ancient times knew the benefits of Lemongrass when suffering with coughs and colds. Drinking this tea helps relieve those symptoms as well without having to use store bought products that can sometimes have side-effects.

This tea is also a natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. If drank regularly, studies have shown that it helps prevent the outbreak of acne and keeps the skin healthy due to its anti-bacterial effects. It can also relieve aches and pains and helps to reduce fever.

Some of our teas containing Organic Lemon Grass:

  • Lemon Whirl
  • Orangina Iced Tea
  • Antistress

If suffering from anxiety or nervousness Lemongrass tea can help reduce these symptoms. It has been used in Brazil for centuries to treat digestive problems and nervous disorders. It is known to promote relaxation as the people of the Amazon are well aware of this benefit and have used it regularly as a natural sedative.

Lemongrass may also have effects on cancer cells. A study from Ben Gurion University in Israel concluded that a molecule called “citral” that is found in the Lemongrass plant induces programmed cell death in cancer cells without harming normal cells.

In conclusion Lemongrass tea has many health benefits. From its calming effects to its positive digestive benefits to its acne prevention and its natural cold and cough reliever, this is an herbal tea that all can benefit from. tweet this quote

Wow I had no idea. My mom planted some lemongrass in my yard & when my kids were little and had tummy issues she would boil the leaves to make a tea and would give it to them. It not only made them feel better but now I realize it made them sleep better. My kids are now all young adults & I still have my lemongrass & I will start making more tea & drinking it more frequently! Thanks for all your info. I’m very surprised at what this plant is good for.

My wife is from the Philippines. She introduced me to lemon grass tea years ago. I find it in my local USA supermarket. She beats the roots with a mallet and cuts off the stems, then boils it for 15 minutes. It makes a delightful tasting tea. I have high blood pressure and it has helped lower my count and enhances good digestion. I highly recommend it as a bedtime tea.

I had breast cancer 5 years ago. After reading about the benefits of lemon grass, I have been drinking it every morning on empty stomach. I used a good blender, place 2 stalks of fresh lemon grass (which fortunately is available and cheap in my country) and juice up a cup of lemon grass drink. I sieve out the residue and drink it hot. Sometimes when I feel bloated (gas in my tummy) I would add in a small piece of tumeric. Viola! It flattens my tummy too. But as for healing cancer? So far so good, fingers XXXXXXXXX

hi maryam, stumbled across your comment about the effects of the the lemon grass oil to yeast, and wanted to ask you, do you think it would have the same effect on intestinal candida overgrowth as i know that is sometimes referred to as yeast (or so i think) ๐Ÿ™‚

  28. Reply Maryam Feb 19,2013 5:44 pm

I’m working with the oil in my microbiology laboratory. I tried garlic, bay leaf oil and other oils. This stuff (lemongrass) obliterated my yeast plates. It’s amazing for yeast. Hence why I am looking to buy some to drink on a regular basis. It’s a better antimicrobial than garlic – and smells nicer!

Maryam, it’s good to her from the pro that lemongrass is not just a hype. It looks like you are in the UK – there are many great suppliers who can help you find your “stuff”. If not, let me know and I’ll recommend some. But remember garlic keeps vampires off! LOL

Is Lemon Grass good for hypertension? Thanks

    • Reply admin May 29,2012 8:29 am

Marj, Hypertension is known to most people as High Blood Pressure. Lemongrass alone certainly won’t help you, on the other hand it will not hurt. In fact I suggest anyone with hypertension needs to see the doctor. High blood pressure is also called โ€œsilent killerโ€, for good reason.

      • Reply Ling Jan 8,2013 11:45 pm

For High blood preasure you may try this recipe and it actually work.

7 small bitter gourd (remove the seed and cut into small pieces.

1 chinese soup spoon of “Kei Chi” (Wolfberries)

        – Mix both the above and add water into it (just enough to cover the items)and double boil it for about 2 hours.

      Hi Angie,

Just pour boiling water over the lemongrass herb (use an infuser), let it sit for 10 minutes, remove the infuser and enjoy.
